Stop Signs and Speed Limits
Many of us agree that speeding is a huge problem in our subdivision. During our last council meeting, I proposed that we approach the Livingston Parish council about adding stop signs and lowering the speed limit. The feeling was mutual among all board members, and Jason Simcoe ran with it. Jason approached Buddy Mincey, our current councilman about the issue.
The two of them toured our neighborhood, and Buddy agreed to help. He is going to draft an ordinance to add three way stop signs at Iberia and Concordia and to lower the speed limit to 20 MPH. It should appear on the agenda for the October 27th meeting. He does not expect any resistance and it is a completely reasonable request. If implemented, it should take around 30 days for us to see the changes implemented.
If anyone has any comments or concerns, feel free to post them in response to this post.
Also, Mr. Mincey has offered his parish cell phone number if anyone would like to speak to him.

Thanks Jason, for making this happen so quickly.

Great idea for the front of the neighborhood, however, once you pass the concordia three way stop there is nothing hindering the speeders all the way to the end of avoyelles. I hate speedbumps but that is something that would benefit the entire neighborhood when it comes to speeders not just the front half of the neighboorhood.
Actually, the proposed three way stops will be in the middle of Avoyelles. If you click the Google Maps link in my post it will show you exactly where they will be.
Ahhhh. I did click on the map before but for some reason I forgot about iberia and only saw concordia. Hope this helps with speeding as we have almost been run over several times. I still say the only thing to slow people down are speed bumps. Stop signs if a cop is watching is great. Have you seen the three way at buddy ellis and john l lane…people pause and blow thru all the time. I am willing to try anything to stop speeders! How long will we try the stop signs before we decide if we need another way?
I think we’ll look into speed humps f we’ve still got a speeding problem after lowering the speed limits, hiring off-duty police, and adding stop signs. From what I’m told, speed bumps/humps are very hard to get approved, so we’ve got to exhaust all options before trying to go that route.
Please quit wasting money as for the police , that is a waste of money , the police is parked for at the most 20 minutes , then gone . Let’s be real here , you can’t stop all speeding , it happens all over the louisiana area , the only sure way to control speeding are with the auto speeding cam’s
